I am deeply saddened to inform the National Free Press TOONED IN readers and visitors that Joel Barbee, a fellow colleague NFP Editorial Cartoonist has passed away. I am going to miss the conversations and cartoons. Joel was a truly nice individual and I feel honored to have been able to work with him over the past few years.The artist, father, husband and friend to many, passed away on Thursday, May 19th.Joel Barbee first appeared in the NFP during the last half of 2006. His cartoons always hilarious and quite topical. Joel cranked out the cartoons like a factory production line. Everybody here at my studio sends prayers and our thoughts go out to the Barbee family, their friends and acquaintances during this trying moment in time. Our prayers are with you, God Bless. The following is information regarding services (California), should you wish to attend… Joel Barbee Celebration of Life: He was a beautiful light in this life and filled those around him with smiles and laughter. He was a great man and the world becomes a smaller place without his wonderful smile. Thursday May 26th, 2:00 PM at Talega Life Church 1040 Calle Negocio, San Clemente Ca 92673. Pondo and Nick Vleisides will officiate and share some great memories of Uncle Joel. We also will have some of his incredible art work on display. Joel was an artist for Disney, Hallmark, Carls Junior, Famous Paintings and the Register political cartoonist for over ten years. —————– Thank you Joel for sharing your talent and time with us. We will seriously miss you.

The St. Louis Children’s Illustrated Art Museum has also acquired some original artwork from Welcome To The Jungle©. My work is on exhibit in the Comic Gallery. If you wanted to see some original artwork featuring the characters in the new feature strip then drop in at the Museum.

Woo Hoo! Beating the editors and publishers to the punch. Nice! Hoping to be able to announce some very cool news soon cartoon fans. Yes I know cartoon fans in Missouri are all up in my inbox! Keep the comments flooding in. I answer all my inbox e-mail eventually as soon as possible. Good things are brewing cartoon fans please bear with me and all will be revealed soon. I think all you Missouri fans will be ultra excited. It might be time to go exchange some pieces of artwork at The St. Louis Children’s Illustrated Art Museum. I had requests from another Museum for some pieces to exhibit. I might exchange some new material for the art on exhibit at The Children’s Museum here, and in turn ship the exchanged artwork to the Museum requesting some artwork. I’ll let you know what I decide to do maybe next week. See everybody on Thursday for more cartoon craziness. Had quite a few requests for more of the sketchbook art drop back in and see what’s new. Seriously Cartoon Fans?!? Sketchbook material?!? This seems to be what cartoon fans are wanting to look at.

Just thought this was absolutely ridiculous that Windows 7 had a God Mode. Of course The Reverend Wright would jump on the bandwagon with his insane rantings. Don’t you think? Anyway this was shot down by a few editors/publishers. I can’t recall what was ran instead, but the funnies still roll off the drawing board. See everybody this weekend for The Sunday Funnies!

Thought I should get this information out for the huge overseas fanbase. You will be able to find my Comic Book material again this year in The U.K. at the various conventions for the comic artform. For those here in the United States I’m working on getting the Comic Book material here in the states this year. Until then I hope the printed newspages will tide you over until then. I really appreciate your support throughout the years! Unfortunately I will not be appearing in person this year at the conventions overseas, Sorry fans! You fine folks in The U.K. know exactly what you’re looking for so look for my funnies on the printed pages! I appreciate you supporting a United States Illustrator/Cartoonist. Hopefully I will see you next year!

A new week brings new job opportunities. Got a laugh when I heard Conan say he interviewed a squirrel in his backyard. That’s some funny stuff. I’m sure he’s not struggling with bills yet. Do you think he’s had to make cutbacks on living expenses though? Ha,ha,ha.
